More and more celebrities are being thrown around as possible contenders for Dancing With the Stars this fall, including a few troublemaking cable stars.

The leading contender being discussed to star in season 17 of Dancing With the Stars is celebrity chef Paula Deen. She was recently fired from her Food Network cooking show after being charged with making racial slurs in her past. Enstars previously reported that Dancing With the Stars producers were interested in getting Deen on the fall season. An insider close to the show said that the competition has a history of casting similarly troubled celebrities, such as Bristol Palin and Kate Gosselin.

Speaking of Gosselin, her husband Jon Gosselin aexpressed his interest in appearing on the show this fall. In a June interview with VH1, the former reality star said that Dancing With the Stars would be a perfect way to "reinvent himself" and even said that he would "probably get further" in the competition that Kate did. Producers, on the other hand, have not expressed any interest in having him on the next season.

Another contender who expressed his interest in joining the show was racecar driver Tony Kanaan. The driver, who won the Indianapolis 500 in May, said Wednesday that he was "in talks" to join the new season. Fellow driver Hélio Castroneves won Dancing With the Stars in the show's fifth season and Kanaan said that he thinks he could follow in his footsteps.

"Obviously, Hélio did such a great job representing the drivers and the Brazilians," Kanaan told Hollywood Life this week. "Me being a Brazilian, I'm going to have a tough task but I'll try. We'll see. If it's the right time, I'll definitely accept it and go try it."

As for returning dancers, fan-favorite Maxsim Chmerkovskiy told Extra Tuesday that he was "completely engulfed in Broadway," but teased, "we'll see."

Dancing With the Stars will air its season 17 this fall on ABC.
