During Showtime's Summer Television Critics Association tour recently, Claire Danes told reporters what it's like filming Homeland with a newborn baby.

The actress is mother to 7-month-old Cyrus Michael Christophery Dancy with husband Hugh Dancy. She said filming her lead role of a CIA officer in the TV series can get quite "dark" at times and she enjoys breaking away from that when she goes home at the end of the work day.

"The material is very dark and it is so nice to come home and be jarred out of that state by this buoyant butterball-this bundle of love," Danes said. "I have this beautiful little boy to just kind of go 'bing' and just erase it all very quickly."

The 34-year-old actress also talking about taking son Cyrus with her on set. She was most recently photographed carrying the baby on her waist while filming in North Carolina mid-July.

"[Our director Lesli Linka Glatter] will hold him and direct," she added. "She's literally bobbing him [in her arms] and says, 'Action.' It's very cool. It's very sweet."

Even though acting while raising a newborn worked out well, Danes, who plays intelligence officer Carrie Mathison in the Award-winning show, revealed how she was "nervous" at first to return to the set after giving birth in December.

"I was anxious about returning. I was so in my cozy mommy bubble and I had all sorts of exaggerated fears," she said. "But it has been great."

Showtime's Homeland will premiere on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. EST. In Elle's February issue, the actress noted that she would make a "lousy stay-at-home mom," which is why she felt lucky to have acting or "a straight-arrow focus" to return to. Even though Danes is on mommy duty for now, after she finishes filming season 3 she will join her husband of almost four years, Hugh, in Toronto where his is filming NBC's Hannibal.

"It will be my turn to be holding down the domestic fort," Danes explained. "We feel so fortunate that we get to work in tandem like this. There is, like, a month overlap but basically it is 'his turn, my turn.'"
