Hailey Bieber is almost certainly counting her lucky stars at this moment.

The model was hospitalized last Thursday for a "small blood clot" in her brain, according to a note she posted on her Instagram story. The note read:

"On Thursday morning, I was sitting at breakfast with my husband when I started showing stroke-like symptoms and was taken to a hospital. They found I had suffered from a very small blood clot to my brain, which caused a small lack of oxygen, but my body had passed it on its own and I recovered completely within a few hours. Although this was definitely one of the scariest moments I have ever been through, I'm home now and doing well, and I'm so grateful and thankful to all the amazing doctors and nurses who took care of me!

"Thank you to everyone who has reached out with well wishes and concern, and for all the support and love."

What Hailey had is known as an ischaemic stroke, which is the more common kind - the other is caused by brain bleeds, which are far more serious. Symptoms can include confusion, loss of verbal comprehension or ability to speak, numbness or slackness of facial muscles or arms and legs, particularly to one side, paralysis, and increased agitation.

Ischaemic strokes used to only have a 20% survival rate, but now thanks to scientific research, those odds have completely flipped: Survival rate is now 80%. Blood clots can still be mild to serious, depending on the size of the clot, but now they are usually treated with an injection that breaks up the clots.

Hailey, of course didn't even need the injection, as her body took care of the clot on its own - a good sign. But this is likely a warning that she should watch her stress levels and get her blood pressure checked, as those are some of the most common causes of clots like this in someone as young as her.

We're glad Hailey is home safe and sound with her husband, and that Justin Bieber was there to recognize the symptoms and get her the attention she needed.
