Earlier today, pop icon Britney Spears posted the latest round of nude photos to her Instagram. While some fans have been celebrating the photos as Spears taking back her power after an oppressive 13-year conservatorship, others think it's a cry for help.

Spears posted three separate sets of nude photos today. In these photos, Spears censors her private areas using emojis and her hands - but nothing else.

In her captions, it's obvious that Spears feels happy about her body, and wants to celebrate how good she looked in Mexico before she discovered she was pregnant for the third time.

According to TMZ, Spears has also previously claimed that the nude photos signified how she is "a free woman and a rebel."

However, instead of taking Spears at her word, fans have been commenting on Spears' photos with criticism, wondering based on these posts whether the conservatorship should have been lifted.

Plenty of other fans have been defending Spears online, saying that plenty of other celebrity women have posted nude photos of themselves and not had people imply that they should be under a conservatorship.

Others have reminded everyone how restricted Spears' life has been under the conservatorship, and said that we should all just let Spears be.

Spears has also found a supporter in ex-Disney star Hilary Duff. Coincidentally, on the same day that Spears posted her latest nude photos, Duff's nude cover for Women's Health was also released.

Not only was the timing perfect, but Duff also publicly said that she did the nude Women's Health shoot specifically because she was inspired by Britney Spears' earlier Instagram posts.

While we can't be 100% sure about Spears' mental state, what we do know is that she was judged to be in control of her faculties enough to not need a conservatorship. Additionally, despite mental health struggles, the pop star was functional enough to consent to taking and posting the nude pictures of herself. Thus, in this situation, it feels like the fan backlash is belittling Spears' ability to make decisions for herself.
