Season 3 of Falling Skies has come to a close and in doing so left an incredible amount of unanswered questions for season 4.

Sunday night's "Brazil" focused less on the destruction of the Espheni grid and more on the undesirable aftermath. Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) and his comrades went from celebrating the hard-earned victory and the arrival of the Volm to nearly being subjugated by the new aliens in town. Brazil is seen as a safe location for Earth's inhabitants for the duration of the war, but Tom sees it as a concentration camp.

"We're always trying to open up world a little more, and while we didn't explore it in great detail, the implication was that a lot of South America hadn't been as affected by the Espheni invasion as the rest of the world was," said show runner Remi Aubuchon, according to Entertainment Weekly. "I just like the notion that there might be some spots in the world that are relatively free of the war, as has happened in almost every giant conflict in the world."

However, the strength of the human spirit prevailed once more and the Volm allowed the Charleston rebels to continue their fight. As they made their way back down to the capital, an altercation with Karen resulted in her death at the hands of Tom and Maggie (Sarah Carter) while Anne (Moon Bloodgood) and a six-year-old Lexi come back onto the scene. Creepy baby Lexi (if these people really are Anne and Lexi) is now a unsettlingly gifted child who manages to pull the eye worms out of Lourdes (Seychelle Gabriel) with little to no effort.

"We had an inkling that Lexi was a special child," Aubuchon told Entertainment Weekly. "And I think that the big question that is a little subtle but is definitely there is, is that Anne and Lexi? Tom saw them dead. It's a little coincidental that all of the sudden Anne and Alexis show up in the middle of the woods.

Aubuchon will be replaced in season 4 by David Eick (Battlestar Gallactica), which means the storylines started by Aubuchon could really go in any direction when the sci-fi series returns to TNT next summer.
