Fifty-two-year-old rap icon Snoop Dogg shocked fans with an announcement saying he is "giving up smoke."

On Thursday, the "Drop It Like It's Hot" rapper announced the news across all his social media pages - Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

"After much consideration and conversation with my family, I've decided to give up smoke," Snoop Dogg wrote. "Please respect my privacy at this time," he added.

However, some fans of the American rapper - real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. - found it difficult to believe his out-of-the-blue statement.

"Is it April Fool's day?" commented one fan on his Instagram post. A second user said, "Am I too high or is this s- real?"

"He said 'smoke' not 'smoking.' Something ain't right here..." a third netizen wrote.

"There may be several reasons for this: 1. It can be a very good joke. 2. It could be that he has really decided to quit. 3. He may decide to quit because of health problems," another fan commented.

Meanwhile, other fans showed their support if Snoop Dogg were really quitting smoking for good.

"Sometimes we got to make hard decisions for the betterment of our minds and bodies. [I'm] fully on board with you," wrote one fan.

"The smoke was oppressive. This was a beautiful choice. [I'm] happy for you," said another. Someone else wrote, "Once, I said that if Snoop Dogg quit smoking, I will too. I said that in a joke but it's happening. Now I must stop too. It's a good and healthy call."

On Facebook, Snoop Dogg's announcement was also received with the same mixed reactions. Some doubted his statement, but others opted to show support.

"We ain't believing this but congrats. We will be watching you," commented one user. A second user said, "At first, I thought you're just high but this time it looks like you are serious. It won't be easy but mad respect for taking the hard road but the right road. Good luck."

Several even shared their own stories of giving up the same vice. "That's amazing if this is true. I've been off pot for 33 days now and I have never felt better and this is after 40+ years of being a daily, heavy user. Good luck to you! It was so much easier than I ever thought it could be," commented one.

Another shared, "Great job, Snoop Dogg. You got this, bro. I've been sober for 53 days now."

Apparently, in 2002, Snoop Dogg tried to kick smoking pot completely, too, per TMZ. However, the sabbatical didn't last long at the time, and it "kicked him back."

Whether his recent post was a joke or a really serious decision, his fans said they would be watching.
