Johnny Depp Deletes Edited Photo With Robert Downey Jr Following Kate Middleton's Photo Controversy

Johnny Depp took down the photo he initially uploaded to celebrate Robert Downey Jr.'s major victory at the Oscars.

Depp was among Downey Jr.'s celebrity pals who were very happy about his win at the Oscars ceremony. The "Iron Man" star won the Best Supporting Actor award for "Oppenheimer." The movie, directed by Christopher Nolan, also received the Best Picture award.

The "Pirates of the Caribbean" star was overjoyed with Downey Jr.'s major victory and gave him a shoutout on his Instagram Stories on Sunday. Depp initially shared a digitally altered image of them, per the Daily Mail.

The first photo he uploaded was from a 1988 picture featuring the "Avengers" star with his then-girlfriend, Sarah Jessica Parker. Depp was absent in the original snap.

However, the post was flagged by many users as a Photoshop fail, prompting the "Edward Scissorhands" actor to change it with an authentic photograph of them. Depp uploaded photos of him with Downey Jr. at the Golden Globes in 2011.

"'Let's try this again...congrats to my dear friend," he wrote in the caption.

The doctored image that Depp uploaded originated from a fan account that had circulated for years. Many became critical of edited images following Kate Middleton's controversial Mother's Day photo.

Kensington Palace released an image of the Duchess of Cambridge to mark Mother's Day on Sunday. However, hours after that, the Associated Press issued a "kill notice" after learning it was "manipulated" upon close examination. Middleton apologized for the "confusion." According to the royal mom of three, she "occasionally" experiments with editing just "like many amateur photographers."

One netizen shared the edited photo of Depp and Downey Jr. and jokingly captioned it with: "Damn Kate Middleton should've hired Johnny Depp to do the photoshop."

Meanwhile, several netizens didn't mind the edited photo Depp first uploaded because they knew that the "Fantastic Beasts" actor was good friends with the "Avengers: Endgame" star.

"Johnny Depp and RDJ have been friends for decades. Sorry X. Everyone in Hollywood loves Johnny cos he's a great guy, and they've known your gal lied about him since 2016," one wrote.

"What's embarrassing is those that don't know that @RobertDowneyJr and #JohnnyDepp have been good friends for decades. They have things in common and have helped each other out when needed. I thought this was common knowledge," another user added.

"Now are they going to start dragging RDJ because they have only just realized they are friends? Would fit their pattern. But geez. These guys have been buddies for ages."

Depp's celebrity pals congratulated him when he won his defamation case against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, in June 2022. Among those who FaceTimed him was Downy Jr., who reportedly told him, "John, thank God it's over," per Mirror.
