As Dexter wraps up its final season, the show's writers discussed the series finale and the process of writing it.

In a new clip from The Writers Room' on Sundance Channel, executive producers/writers Sara Colleton and Scott Buck described the process of writing the ending for Dexter.

"We've known for a long time how we wanted to end it so we've been able to sit with it, think it through," Colleton explained. "We think it's right and honest for the show."

Enstars previously reported that Colleton said there would be people who would hate the series finale while some would love it.

"Dexter (Michael C. Hall) is a character who has evolved over the years and the show itself has evolved over the years, that now, where Dexter Morgan is, this is what feels like the fitting ending," Buck added.

As far as Buck's comments about "where Dexter Morgan is" in his life, the series seems to be leading to a life of solitude for its main character, according to a review of Sunday night's episode from The Huffington Post. The episode, titled Dress Code, featured Dexter's serial killer ex-girlfriend Hannah (Yvonne Strahovski). She returned to enlist Dexter's help in the disposal of her new husband's dead body.

Morgan's sister Deb (Jennifer Carpenter), however, was tracking him with a GPS, as he helped Hannah--a woman Deb wants killed.

Meanwhile, Dexter's protégé, Zach Hamilton (Sam Underwood), brutally murdered Dexter's neighbor, Cassie (Bethany Joy Lenz), despite Dexter's attempts to teach Zach about having a more thought-out code regarding his murders.

The preview for next Sunday's episode, titled Are We There Yet?, showcases Dexter and Hannah budding relationship as well as  a scene where Dexter puts a knife to Zach's throat.

The next episode of Dexter will air Sunday, Aug. 18 at 9 p.m. on Showtime.
