Katie Couric can't understand the public's fascination with the Kardashian clan, but she can understand the benefits of marriage.

The 56-year-old talk show host has been attempting to keep her daytime show from falling victim to the lure of gossip, and there's few topics more gossip laden than the lives of those reality show heavyweights.

"I don't understand - why are they so famous? I think it's mostly teenage girls that are interested," Couric admitted to In Touch.

The journalist recently appeared in new a Got Milk? advertisment with her two daughters. While not too far from their teenage years, the Couric girls probably lean more towards hard news journalism like their mother.

As for Couric's personal life, the former Today show host has repeatedly stated that she still considers remarriage as a possible option. The reporter lost her husband to colon cancer in the late '90s, and has not made the walk to the alter again, much to her surprise.

"I've been independent for so long -- my husband died 16 years ago -- [and] I think when children aren't a consideration, I'm just not sure how necessary it is," Couric said, according to the Huffington Post. "But on the other hand, I really like the idea of being in a committed relationship. You can be in a committed relationship without a paper, but I think it's harder to walk away from a relationship that has the benefit of marriage."

Currently in a relationship with financier John Molner, Couric has previously been courted by such men as Bob Saget and Michael Jackson.

Couric can be seen on the ABC daytime talk show, Katie.
