Demi Lovato revealed her thoughts on playing a lesbian on the upcoming fifth season of Glee.

Lovato will be playing Dani, a struggling artist from New York City who becomes Santana's (Naya Rivera) love interest. The singer/actress discussed the role on Ryan Seacrest's radio show recently.

"I don't want people to take from this, 'Oh my god, Demi is kissing a girl,'" Lovato explained. "I want people to take from it this is actually an incredible step in our generation today where I'm able to play a young lesbian on primetime TV."

Lovato's character will first be introduced in the second episode of Glee's upcoming season. She will be appearing in multiple episodes this season.

"I'm honored to be able to be hopefully inspiring people with my character to be who they are and not be afraid of it or ashamed," she added.

The Heart Attack singer said that she has been getting along with the Glee cast since arriving on the set.

"It's been awesome," she said. "We had our first episode together this last week and . . . I'm good friends with a lot of the cast members already, so it was like walking into a giant hang-out."
