Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" is getting an entirely different twist with Fox's Sleepy Hollow.

Taking place in a world where Irving's well-known tale is nonexistent, the new program takes elements of the supernatural and the historical and blends them together against the familiar background of a cop drama.

The premise is as follows: Ichabod Crane (Tom Milson) beheads Death (a horseman of the apocalypse) during the Revolutionary War, a feat that results in Crane's death. Fast-forward to over two centuries later and something has awoken the headless corpse and his former killer. Back from the dead, the ax-wielding horseman appears to be on a killing spree in the small town of Sleepy Hollow. Crane then teams up with police officer Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) to investigate the admittedly bizarre happenings while trying to link a confusing web of witch-hunts, time travel, and the occult to solve a mystery that has roots as far back as America's inception.

Billed as a sci-fi thriller, the show may sound completely insane but it has been touted by Rolling Stone as the "most fun you'll have" with a new series this fall.

With writers and producers culled from works like Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, and Fringe, it is fairly safe to assume that the program will be able to safely navigate the twists and turns of its rather crazy plot line while also managing to throw in a healthy dose of comedy.

Catch Sleepy Hollow when it premieres tonight at 9 p.m. on Fox.
