Amber Heard has been dating Johnny Depp since the two co-starred in the 2011 film They Rum Diary, but she said it is not easy dating when you are an actor.

"It is really hard when you spend your life living out of a suitcase," the 27-year-old told Company magazine's December 2013 issue. "But it really does weed out superficial people-if someone is still with you after the second movie, then they're probably a good one! I like to trust people in general-it's the Southern girl in me."

Heard and Depp were last photographed together in London on Oct. 24. The paparazzi follow the couple around the world and Heard admitted that it bothers her to be surrounded by flashing lights when she is not working.

"It's hard because I was brought up to always be polite and respectful, when someone shouts your name-you turn around," she said. "It took me a very long time to overcome the cordial instinct, the polite, human instinct to smile and say thank you when someone compliments you, but then they get their picture, which is annoying."

The Paranoia star added that it is becoming increasingly difficult in Hollywood to find decent roles as a woman.

"You name me movies where the woman's part isn't narrower than the man's and they will be the exceptions - not the norm. I think in Europe things are better, but, in the US, we still have characters who are defined by physical attractiveness," she said. "I try to search for roles where the character is not dependent on how she looks, but it is hard because I didn't know anyone in this industry so I started as an extra and fought.

I've had to take on roles that were superficial, girlfriend roles, but I've tried to put some power or strength into them. And I don't think talent and beauty are mutually exclusive," she added.

Someone Heard looks up to as an actress and role model is Angelina Jolie. She said of the Maleficent star, "I wish I could hold my tongue more, but I'm just not very good at it... Angelina Jolie is an incredible example - just an incredible force in terms of challenging the status quo."
