Game of Thrones season 4 is finishing up with filming this month but those who have read the books already know spoilers for what's coming, including a very eventful storyline at King's Landing.

Season 4 of Game of Thrones is adapting the second half of A Storm of Swords, the third book in the A Song of Ice and Fire novels on which the TV series is based. After the gruesome events of the Red Wedding, it could be assumed that things quiet down for a while but there is another wedding that proves equally game-changing: The Purple Wedding.

The wedding of King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) and Margaery (Natalie Dormer) is a significant one in the book because of the events that occur during and after it. During the wedding feast, the guests are having a good time until Joffrey starts coughing violently.

Game of Thrones Spoilers: Does Jon Snow Kill Mance Rayder?

It is discovered that Joffrey's wine has been poisoned, and the King points at Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) as he lays dying. With Joffrey dead, his mother Cersei (Lena Headey) calls for the arrest of Tyrion and Sansa (Sophie Turner), who she assumes is in on the plot.

As the trial proceedings go on, it is discovered that neither Tyrion nor Sansa poisoned Joffrey's wine. However, they are both implicated in the murder. Cersei grieves over the loss of her son but most in King's Landing are either relieved or unaffected by his death, considering his monstrous personality.
