From expecting his first child to adopting two dogs, Simon Cowell's life is certainly going through an interesting transition.

The X Factor judge is set to appear on Friday's edition of The Ellen Degeneres Show to talk everything from baby names to his pets' first photo shoot.

Now that Cowell and Lauren Silverman have confirmed that they will be welcoming a little boy, the British music magnate has forwarded one specific name for approval - Simon.

"It's my number one choice, just because I like the name," the 54-year-old admitted to Degeneres. "I think I just like the idea of talking to someone else named Simon."

Although Cowell isn't too keen on saddling his child with his middle name, Phillip, the former American Idol critic would probably gladly put that on a birth certificate over some of the recent suggestions he has received.

"Every time I met someone in the street they come up with weird names for the boy," Cowell revealed. "The latest one was Barnacle. Where did that one come from?"

Whatever his son is named, the youngster will have some furry companions to grow up with. Cowell brought home two new Yorkshire Terrier mixes about a month ago and the animals, which he tells Degeneres have taken to sleeping on his head, already had a photo shoot for a London newspaper.

"I think dogs are good training for babies. They are still puppies and they are falling in the swimming pool and getting lost in the house," Cowell recently told the Daily Mail. "This is a bit of a road test for the real thing. Squiddly is the girl and Diddly is the boy and they are very naughty but great fun. I would say to anyone thinking about getting a dog - just do it. They bring so much happiness into your life."
