American Horror Story season 4 will have a carnival concept, according to one of the show's writers.

Season 4 Cast: Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson IN; Lily Rabe, Taissa Farmiga OUT?

Douglas Petrie, who was a writer on American Horror Story: Coven, spoke about season 4 on the March 11 episode of the Nerdist Writers Panel podcast, confirming that the season would take place at a carnival, as discovered by The AV Club.

Podcast moderator Ben Blacker asks what was ahead for season 4, to which Petrie responds, "I can say nothing about it."

Taissa Farmiga Not Returning For Season 4?

However, writer Moira Kirland says that she heard it was a carnival theme, at which point Petrie confirms the rumors.

"Yes," Petrie says of the carnival theme. "It does not have a title, but that's the idea - very roughly that's the idea."

This exchange can be heard at the 33-minute mark of the Nerdist Writers Panel podcast.

American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy previously revealed to Entertainment Weekly that "no one has completely guessed what [the concept is" after he was asked if season 4 would be about the circus.

While the circus is technically different from a carnival, season 4 could potentially use some circus themes, since they are generally similar.

As for the season 4 cast, only regulars Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson have confirmed that they will be involved. Fellow regular Evan Peters has said that he hopes to be a part of season 4 despite not knowing if he will be involved yet.

American Horror Story season 4 premieres in fall 2014 on FX, though the network has not yet announced a specific air date.
