The cast of Masters of Sex came to talk about the Showtime series at an event hosted by the TV Academy panel on April 29.

Season 2 Plot Reveals Ahead of Summer Premiere; Less Sex More Drama?

The show's main actors Lizzy Caplan, who plays Virginia Johnson, and Michael Sheen, who plays Bill Masters were present on the occasion.

While talking about the portrayal of sex on their show, Caplan, brought up another pretty popular show that has just returned on television screens for its fourth season. Speaking of HBO's Game of Thrones, which stirred up quite the controversy about a rape scene recently, Caplan suggested that the show was moving off its theme.

"Our show is about sex and intimacy whereas other shows are about other things, maybe dragons," said Caplan. "No disrespect at all, but it does feel at times that it's like, time out dragons, let's watch these people get it on with each other."

And she didn't quite stop there going on to take another oblique jab by stating that their show was backed by a team of women -- executive producers Michelle Ashford and Sarah Timberland -- in some way, and never subjugated them in matters of sex.

"Our show is led by women, so they understand," Caplan said.

Sheen also added his two bits to Caplan's talk on sex and the ethics of bringing it to the television screen vis-a-vis Masters of Sex.

Caplan's male co-star Michael Sheen, who plays Dr. William Masters, also chimed in on the theme of sex and equality. "I don't think it's a pro-woman show," he said. "It's a pro-human being show ... All the characters are equal, and it's striking how [in] many shows that's not the case.

Season 2 of Masters of Sex returns to Showtime on July 13.
