Sherlock fans who are upset over having to wait until 2016 for Season 4 might be pleased to know the latest rumored update.

Sherlock One-Off Special Set To Air Instead Of Season 4?

A new report by RadioTimes.com is claiming that Sherlock Season 4 might actually be coming in 2015 rather than 2016.

"It will not be this year - but 2015 is very much the hope and expectation," a source told the site.

Fans of Sherlock from the beginning have had to wait two years in between seasons, with the first season premiering in 2010, the second in 2012 and the third in 2014. Series co-creator Mark Gatiss has previously stated that 2016 is the most likely air date for Season 4, considering the two-year pattern.

However, he has since said that it has become difficult to get everyone together to film another season, especially with the burgeoning careers of Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the titular character, and Martin Freeman, who plays Watson.

"Writing three films is quite a lot of work and then getting everyone together... [it's] increasingly difficult to get everyone's diaries to align, so we couldn't really do more than three every couple of years I'm afraid," Gatiss admitted at a Q&A session in Brazil recently.

"I mean, we'd certainly like to reduce the time, but by the time we've finished and then everyone starts gearing up again, it roughly takes that long."

Freeman previously said that filming had been delayed, while Cumberbatch said that he didn't even know if a Season 4 would be coming any time soon.
