Audiences have known for a while now that actors Mathew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson will not be returning in the roles Rust Cohle and Marty Hart in True Detective, Season 2. The concept of the show is to have a new setting and new characters each season.

New Female Lead To Star While Jessica Chastain Rumors Are Debunked?

Casting for season two begins next month, and the closer it gets, the more desperate audiences have become in finding out who McConaughey and Harrelson will be passing the torch to. According to Indiewire, series creator Nic Pizzolatto will be writing all the episodes and three lead characters will be featured, two men and one woman.

'Working With Three Leads,' Casting To Begin Next Month, Nic Pizzolatto Reveals?

Actors such as Christian Bale (The Dark Knight) and Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men) have been rumored to star, but the most recent reports claim that there is no truth the rumors.

Jessica Chastain (The Help, Texas Killing Fields) was also a big name to float around for a while until the actress announced that she had no plans to be featured on the show.

The slowest rumor to die down seems to be Brad Pitt's involvement, which some still think to be possible. Pitt has been known to slip into characters here and there; he held a small yet significant role in Steve McQueen's brutal drama 12 Years a Slave just last year. Could he do the same in True Detective, even if he isn't cast as one of the leads?

Indewire and The Daily Beast both claim that Pitt will not be on the show this season, but over the next few months casting announcements should at last be able to debunk rumors and curb speculation.
