It looks as though fans of the hit FX series Fargo might be in for quite a surprise as the show's executives are hinting that the main characters of the show won't be returning for a second season.

Fargo: Does The Series Pale In Comparison To The 1996 Coen Brothers Movie?

In a new interview, showrunner and writer Noah Hawley hints that while there have been no solid plans for a second season yet, there might be a chance that Allison Tolman, Colin Hanks, and Billy Bob Thornton's characters will all make an exit in the season finale, leaving room for a whole new ensemble.

The dark-comedy crime drama currently revolves around rookie Deputy Molly Solverson (Tolman) and Duluth police officer Gus Grimly (Hanks) teaming up together to solve a series of murders they believe may be linked to Lorne Malvo (Thornton) and insurance salesman Lester Nygaard, played by Martin Freeman.

Fargo Supposed To Have More Of A Movie Feel?

"When I went in and sat down with FX, I said the movie was as powerful as it was, because at the end you knew she was going to wake up tomorrow and it was going to be a normal day," Hawley told E! Online. "And we're saying it's a true story, which it isn't, but it's following a certain true story logic, and it would strain credulity I think to have the continuing adventures of Molly and Gus with [a new storyline of] 'What crazy Coen Brother case are they going to catch next time?

"My feeling is we would explore new territory, but nothing is set in stone yet," Hawley added.

Fargo airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST/PST on the FX. The network still hasn't commented on whether or not there will be a second season of the show.
