Oscar Pistorious Murder Trial Update: Former Olympian Found Mentally Sane, Conviction & Life Sentence In Reeva Steenkamp Murder Imminent? [VIDEO]
After a one-month period involving outpatient testing to determine the state of his mental health, the trial of former Olympian Oscar Pistorious has resumed in South Africa with the notion that he was perfectly healthy at the time of his girlfriend's 2013 murder.
Reeva Steenkamp's Arm Wound Proves Oscar Pistorious' Guilt?
Pistorious, who has been on trial for the shooting death of his model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, has been found by a panel of experts to have not been suffering from any sort of mental illness on Valentine's Day 2013, the night he is accused of shooting and killing Steenkamp in the bathroom of their Pretoria, South Africa home.
The experts found that Pistorious was "capable of appreciating the wrongfulness of his act" when he pulled the trigger, despite his defense team's earlier assertions that the double-amputee runner has long-suffered from an anxiety disorder due to his disability.
Oscar Pistorious 'Faking' Emotional Testimony?
The finding by the experts could poke some serious holes in the athlete's defense, and could result in a conviction that would see him sent to prison with a sentence of 25 years to life.
The murder trial, which began in March, has been unique in that has been broadcast live online throughout the entire world.
Pistorious has come under multiple attacks during the trial as well, including allegations in April that he was faking his emotional outbursts and crying spells during the proceedings.
Jani Allan, a former columnist for the South African Sunday Times accused Pistorious of taking acting lessons to help him seem more like a grieving boyfriend than a murderer, in a blog post.
"Oscar, you bought the gun. You chose the bullet that would cause maximum damage," Allan wrote at the time. "I have it from a reliable source that you are taking acting lessons for your days in court. Your coach has an impossible task."
Pistorious reportedly puked and cried during his testimony, which caused Allan to refer to him as a "faux hero" who was giving an Academy Award worthy performance.
"Oscar, you are the latest in a long line of faux heroes," she said. "Like so many, you have betrayed your people and disappointed your fans."
