This season MTV's 16 and Pregnant followed three teens facing not only the challenges of new motherhood, but also the struggles of having a mother battling addiction.

Summer, Savannah, and Millina all appeared on the show as pregnant young women who already had conflict within the home. Summer's mother Katrina was addicted to painkillers, fueling the habit by writing bad checks that had her facing jail time.

Millina's mother Raychelle was already imprisoned for drug possession when Millina's episode was filmed. Savannah's mother Melanie was an alcoholic.

16 & Pregnant Star Courtney Ames Talks Life After MTV Series

Last night MTV aired the 16 and Pregnant Reunion Special, which included follow-up interviews to find out how the teen parents are doing today

According to MTV, it has not been an easy road. Savannah's mother is still an alcoholic, and the teen explained that having her mother's problems out in the public eye has been painful and "embarrassing."

Summer's mother Katrina did not even show up for the reunion, which Summer claimed was essentially a reflection of her parenting as a whole. "You can't depend on her for anything," claimed Summer, who avoids painkillers altogether for fear that she might follow in her mother's footsteps. Katrina is currently on probation, and will be for the next ten years.

Only Millina's mother seemed to show any signs of improvement, though it hasn't been easy. After leaving rehab early she has struggled in her daily life. Millina claimed during the interview that Raychelle is still attending the required meetings and has been doing really well, though the fear of a relapse looms large over her head.

The MTV series is known to have played a part in reducing teen pregnancy statistics in the United States, and so maybe it could also help to improve the state of unstable households across the country.
