The fourth season of AMC's Hell on Wheels began last week with an episode that saw Cullen Bohannon trapped in Fort Smith by his arch enemy, The Swede, while things percolated in Cheyenne, the lynchpin of the railroad in 1867.

Cullen Tries To Escape The Swede On Hell On Wheels

On Monday, AMC reported on some of the Hell on Wheels actors' thoughts about this season premiere, entitled "The Elusive Eden."

Anson Mount, who plays the lead character Cullen, talked about where his character is mentally, and they also chatted with Mackenzie Porter, who plays Cullen's new wife, Naomi. Porter took over the role of Naomi this season from Siobhan Williams, who had other commitments that kept her from returning to her role. The actors who play Mickey and Eva also discuss where their characters are after the first episode of the season. Mount discusses not just the mental and emotional toll on Cullen, but also the physical toll, and Porter says Naomi can see the toll on Cullen.

Big Changes Promised For Season 4 Of Hell On Wheels

Of course, there is plenty of season left, as this year Hell on Wheels got 13 episodes, as opposed to the 10 they had been getting. Information on the next episode, "Escape From the Garden," is already out there. Cullen will make the effort to get him and his family away from The Swede, and Fort Smith, while Thomas Durant will meet a new adversary in Cheyenne. That gentleman is John Allen Campbell, the governor of Wyoming, a new character being played by Jake Weber.

Weber is in the main cast, so he's expected to be a big part of this season. Hell on Wheels airs Saturday night on AMC.
