Days of Our Lives star Freddie Smith & his girlfriend, Alyssa Tabit, were seriously injured in a Tuesday morning accident when the car they were driving lost control.

According to police, the couple were driving in Kingsville Township, Ohio when Smith reportedly failed to safely negotiate a left curve and lost control, with the vehicle crossing the centerline before striking a culvert and turning over.  Tabit was trapped in the car and sustained serious injuries.

Police have said they believe speed and alcohol may have played a factor in the crash.

Some of Smith's co-stars have taken to Twitter since hearing the news to send their love to the actor and his girlfriend.

"Sending light to Freddie and Alyssa," Deidre Hall, who portrays Smith's grandmother-in-law on the show wrote.

His on-screen mother-in-law (Allison Sweeney) and husband (Guy Wilson), also tweeted out their prayers to him as well.

"Sending Prayers," Sweeney wrote.

" @freddiemsmith and @AlyssaTabit were involved in a very serious car accident. Details unknown. Please, everyone, send prayers and love," Wilson said.

Molly Burnett, who is expected to return to the show within the next few months, posted an update on the couple's condition on Facebook, after speaking to Smith by phone.

"Just got off the phone with Freddie. He and Alyssa are OKAY. They were in a serious car accident last night, but were able to receive medical help IMMEDIATELY," she posted. "Freddie was released from the hospital, and Alyssa will be in surgery. She was cognitive pre-surgery, and all of her tests were perfect. Both Freddie and Alyssa's families are heading there now, and they are in the best hands. I will keep you guys updated. Send over as many prayers and well wishes as you can.

Burnett also updated fans later to let them know that Smith's girlfriend had also gotten out of surgery and was doing well.

It is currently unclear if Smith's injuries will affect his shooting schedule for the show.
