Leigh Whannell, the director of Insidious 3, recently congratulated John Leonetti for Annabelle, and seemed inspired by his success.

Director Discusses "Really Creepy" Occurrences At The Haunted Set While Filming Annabelle

"Congrats to the most relaxed, easy going person in Hollywood, John Leonetti, on his Annabelle success. When nice guys succeed, we all win!" he tweeted on October 5.

Annabelle is part of the Insidious family in some way as James Wan helmed Insidious and The Conjuring.

With Insidous Chapter 3, Whannell will be playing director for the very first time. Whannell collaborated with Wan as a writer on the first two films.

Annabelle had trumped the much-hyped Ben Affleck starrer Gone Girl -- which opened the same week as the prequel to The Conjuring -- at the box office.

On opening night Annabelle took away $15.5 million vs. the $13.2 for Gone GirlForbes reported. In fact what makes this striking is the fact that it took $60 million to make Gone Girl and only $7million to make Annabelle. So the press has generally been baffled by the indie-horror flick's success which didn't boast of star cast like Gone Girl.

But while Annabelle might have made the big bucks, it didn't impress the critics.

The movie stars Annabelle Wallis as Mia Gordon, Ward Horton as John Gordon, Alfre Woodard as Evelyn, Eric Laden as Detective Clarkin, Brian Howe as Pete Higgins and Tony Amendola as Father Perez.

The movie is set for release on October 3.
