American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy has revealed that the first two episodes of Freak Show feature clues to what the subject and theme will be for Season 5.

Jessica Lange May Be On Board Beyond 'Freak Show'

Murphy told Entertainment Weekly this week that there are "clues in the first two episodes" for what Season 5 will be about. For those who watched the premiere of Freak Show, some of the more prominent references were to space and planets. Does this mean Season 5 of American Horror Story will center on alien life?

One of the more obvious references is Jessica Lange's character, Elsa, whose last name is Mars. Additionally, her performance in the episode features her riding in on a fake rocket ship as she sings David Bowie's Life on Mars. The freak show itself is set in Jupiter, Fla.

Dot & Bette Involved In Love Triangle With Jimmy, Plus Emma Roberts' Maggie

While these may seem too obvious to be true, the series has not been entirely subtle in the past with clues. As previously reported by Enstars, in American Horror Story: Coven, Lange's character Fiona Goode gave a monologue in which she claimed, "Life is a carnival," a pretty clear indicator of the freak show to come.

If the series wants to take from real life again, they could use Area 51 as a location. The secret facility has its fair share of rumors and speculation about UFOs and alien life. They could also use the Roswell UFO incident from 1947, where there were rumors of an extraterrestrial UFO crashing. This might tie in with Murphy's previous comments that Season 4 was going to be set in either Santa Fe, N.M. or New Orleans (the latter of which they eventually decided on).

American Horror Story: Freak Show airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
