Just because Ryan Gosling recently became a father to daughter Esmeralda with girlfriend Eva Mendes doesn't mean fans aren't still hoping for him to reunite with Rachel McAdams.

The most recent person to hint he may like to see a Gosling-McAdams reunion is none other than their The Notebook co-star James Marsden, who is about to premiere his debut starring role in the newest Nicholas Sparks based romance film, The Best of Me.

In an interview with Popsugar about his new film, Marsden, 41, opened up about the importance of having chemistry in the films, and cited the kind that Gosling and McAdams had in The Notebook as the prime example to try and live up to as an actor.

Rachel McAdams Reacts To Ryan Gosling Having A Baby With Eva Mendes

"It's what the movie lives or dies by, and you have to be like Ryan and Rachel in The Notebook because they had incredibly passionate, real, visceral and loving chemistry, and that's what everybody wants to see. They want to believe in a love story," he said.

"You're asking the audience to invest in these characters and you want to fantasize about having that kind of love, and their chemistry just kind of jumped off the screen and...it's vital, it's probably the most important thing," he added.

Fans have ardently hoped for years that Gosling and McAdams would reignite their romance, which the two called off for good in 2008. Since then, Gosling has had an on/off three-year romance with Mendes, and the two kept the fact that they were expecting a baby together secret until July, and welcomes their little girl, Esmeralda Amada, on September 12.

Since splitting with Gosling, McAdams has had romances with actors Josh Lucas in 2009 and Michael Sheen from 2010-2013. She also reportedly dated music manager Patrick Sambrook from 2013-2014, and was rumored to be romancing Jake Gyllenhaal over the summer.
