Cult TV show Twin Peaks will be returning to television after 25 years, but with the advent of new technology, will the series have a slightly different look now that almost everybody has a smartphone these days?

David Lynch Directing All Episodes of Twin Peaks Revival

Twin Peaks aired from 1990-1991, a time period before everyone had a cell phone and a computer. The revival, which is set to air on Showtime in 2016, is said to be taking place 25 years later as well, meaning it will be depicting the town of Twin Peaks in 2016. While fans love the show's distinctive look and feel, could that be disrupted slightly if Audrey Horne (Sherilyn Fenn) is wielding an iPhone?

In the show's first two seasons, Twin Peaks had the small town feeling of life back in the 1950s and '60s, despite being set in 1989. With the classic Double R diner, the varsity jackets and the seemingly idealistic look and feel of the town, it could very well have been set during the pre-Vietnam era of America.

Which Cast Members Are Returning for the Twin Peaks Revival?

Flash forward to modern times and the world has changed quite a bit. There are more machines and computers than ever before. The way people talk to each other has changed.

But Twin Peaks has always been a strange town, despite being idyllic and realistic on the surface. In a town where the owls are not what they seem and giants appear in dreams, will the 2016 version of Twin Peaks feature the town being stuck in time?

Series creators David Lynch and Mark Frost have not divulged any information about the plot for the Twin Peaks revival, but more details are likely to come in the months ahead.

Twin Peaks returns to television on Showtime in 2016, though the network has not yet announced a specific air date.
