With Halloween now over, the next big holiday is Thanksgiving and while Netflix does not have as many movies about Turkey Day as Oct. 31, there are a few selections users can watch to get in the spirit.

Netflix Movies for November 2014 Revealed

Thanksgiving movies are few and far between in comparison to the big holidays that bookend it, Halloween and Christmas, but there are a few options for those wanting to be more thankful. Here are five solid to great Thanksgiving movies to watch on Netflix before the end of the month:

Planes, Trains and Automobiles

The Best Halloween Movies On Netflix

This John Hughes classic from 1987 starring Steve Martin and John Candy is the most humorous selection on this list. The film centers on Neal, a high-powered marketing executive (Martin) who tries to get home for Thanksgiving when he meets Del, an oddly happy man (Candy). Together they must get to New York in order for Neal to get home for Thanksgiving.

Free Birds

Perhaps the most overtly Thanksgiving themed movie on Netflix is Free Birds, which was released in 2013. The animated film features a turkey afraid of being killed on Thanksgiving who is given the presidential pardon and then goes back in time to the first Thanksgiving to try and get turkeys off the menu for the holiday. This a great film for the whole family and stars Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson and Amy Poehler.

Rocky

While not entirely a Thanksgiving movie, Rocky begins with the title character deciding to ask Adrian (Talia Shire) out on a date. The scene involves her brother Paulie (Burt Young) throwing out a turkey, which eventually leads to Rocky and Adrian getting together. This inspirational film is another one to watch with the whole family.

Addams Family Values

Another classic family movie to enjoy before Thanksgiving is Addams Family Values. The film features a scene in which Wednesday (Christina Ricci) refuses to be in a "first Thanksgiving" reenactment and is forced to watch happy family-friendly movies. This is a good choice for families with kids who are over the happy Disney phase and want something a little darker without going too dark.

The Ice Storm

The most adult-themed film on this list, 1997's The Ice Storm takes place on Thanksgiving in 1973, in which the dysfunctional lives of several suburban couples and their even more dysfunctional kids come together. The warmness of the holiday is an interesting backdrop against the internal struggles of the characters.
