"I'm very confident they're going to have great words to say," noted McConaughey of the new cast during an interview with IGN on Wednesday.

"In Nic Pizzolatto, the creator and writer, you have a great resource to go and just understand what the hell you are saying…" continued the actor. "Nic writes with such clarity and identity that there's no room for attitude. He writes real men that own what they're saying."

The second season of the hit crime drama begins production this month, with Collin Farrell (Minority Report, Saving Mr. Banks), Vince Vaughn (Into the Wild, Wedding Crashers), and Taylor Kitsch (Wolverine, Lone Survivor) leading the cast. This is in keeping with the show's reputation of casting high-profile movie stars in a television series, which could lead to game-changing performances from both actors. It certainly rebooted McConaughey's career.

The story for the upcoming season will follow government corruption and murder in the state of California, though Pizzolatto is trying to keep most of the details quiet for the time being. The writer will pen the complete season, though unlike last time Pizzolatto will be working with a number of directors instead of just one.

True Detective returns to HBO for a second season mid-2015.
