DeLaria, who plays Big Boo on the prison comedy-drama, spoke with PageSix about the video, which saw her arguing with a subway preacher who was quoting a homophobic Bible passage. Though she was trying to shut the preacher down, she still believes in freedom of speech as long as its not outwardly hateful, particularly in New York.

"I have no problem with people talking out loud on the subway. I think that freedom of speech comes with responsibility," she told PageSix in a recent interview. "You should not, you cannot spew that kind of hatred out loud - especially in New York City, a multicultural and -religious city that we live in."

Asked if she had any sort of message she hopes people take from the video, DeLaria stressed the importance of being willing to stand up against evil.

"You must always face evil and take it down," she advised. "The reason evil thrives in the world, the reason hatred thrives in the world, the reason bullying thrives in the world is because of complacency. As long as we continue to take it, it will continue to thrive."

Orange Is the New Black is one of the most progressive shows on television, featuring fluid sexual identity, transgender issues and many more stories that have barely ever been told on television before.

Orange Is the New Black is scheduled to begin streaming in mid-2015 on Netflix. The first two seasons of the series are currently available for full on the site.
