It is hard to see Emma Stone coming back to the Spider-Man series after what happened in the last movie (and not to mention the uncertainty around the entire franchise) but there are some small comments hidden in interviews that happened around the time of the film's release that give a sense of the direction they want to go.

Spider-Man To Get A More Small-Town Focused Story?

Stone is pretty outgoing of the fact that she wants to return to the franchise in some capacity and it has been previously reported that by using the Clone Saga plot from the comics, it would allow Gwen Stacy to come back. But what do the other members of the series have to say about it?

Director Marc Webb talked to MTV News while promoting the film and when they brought up working with Stone, he said that "there are parts of the canon we feel really obligated to. There are parts that we deviate from.

One Random Character Could Be Getting A Solo Film Within Sony's 'Spider-Man' Universe

"The Gwen Stacy saga is a very important and powerful one, but Emma is an incredibly beguiling actress, and I like having her around."

Webb, who is returning to direct the third movie, seems in support of Stone coming back and even mentioned the Gwen Stacy saga. But what about Stone herself?

In an interview with The Huffington Post, she was vague, but also optimistic about getting back into the series somehow. "Like, 'Oh, I don't want to go out. I'm not going to go. But I want to go! What are you guys doing? I hope nobody goes,'" she said.

She was more direct with ScreenRant when she talked about using a whole plotline that would work her back into the series.

"I don't know... is it? There could be a- I don't know, there's a whole plotline that could happen that may bring her back," the actress stated.

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is set for a 2018 release so Sony has time to re-tool bringing Stone back by that time.
