Rihanna will open up for the first time about Chris Brown in an exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

"It was embarrassing. It was humiliating. I lost my best friend," Rihanna tells her in an upcoming exclusive interview.

"I was resentful. I held a grudge. I was dark," she added.

The interview is the season opening episode of "Oprah's Next Chapter." The 56-year-old sits down with the "Birthday Cake" singer in her hometown Barbados.

Winfrey reveals in the preview trailer that she was shocked at how demure and shy the pop singer is in person.

"I thought she would have been kind of a badass... hard-edged rocker pop woman."

"Nothing could have been farther from the truth," added the television mogul. The billionaire says she found Rihanna to be "thoughtful... very emotional... [and] vulnerable."

"You seem to have a liking to the F-word," Winfrey tells her, leading the 24-year-old to laugh.

The interview will be the first time Winfrey speaks to the award-winning singer since her 2009 incident with Chris Brown. Winfrey told a guest on her former talk show how she felt about Rihanna getting back together with Brown after the highly publicized scandal.

"Let me tell you why she got back with him, in my opinion," Winfrey said. "If you go back with a man who hits you, it is because you don't feel you're worthy of being with a man who won't."

Rihanna later tweeted: "I hear Oprah and what she's saying but but at the same time she don't know what's best for me I do respect her though."

"Oprah's Next Chapter" featuring Rihanna will air on Sunday, August 19 at 9/8c on OWN.
