The Newsroom ends forever come next Sunday (Dec. 14) when it airs its sixth and final episode of Season 3. Sam Waterston, who plays Charlie Skinner, gave some insight into the series ending.

Thomas Sadoski Dishes On Missing His Costars From 'The Newsroom' & Teases The Final Season

On Sunday, Zap2it released their interview with Waterston where he spoke about the series ending and his character's endgame.

Yesterday, the second to last episode, Oh Shenandoah, aired in which Charlie Skinner dies from a heart attack. Waterston said, "Nobody gave me any kind of a heads up," when discussing his character's death.

He added, "I made it very clear much earlier on in the first season that I never want to know what is coming next. Because even if it is a long time coming you start to bank on it and think that's what it is going to be and then it could change."

He thinks his character's death is a "wonderful way to go," especially with the series coming to an end. "The show is a salute to Charlie and that's wonderful, but the other thing is it is a funeral for a kind of journalism that isn't anymore. That's really sad way beyond the boundaries of the show."

He concluded that the series ending is "like a good book. It has an ending. They didn't just stop making episodes. This is a story and it is a complete story. No one can complain about the way it ends."

The Newsroom is currently airing its final season on HBO at 9 p.m. ET on Sundays. The final episode is called What Kind of Day Has It Been. See the preview below.
