Victoria's (Madeleine Stowe) only son drew his last breath during the series' midseason finale, dying in the army of Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp). In a shocking move, it turned out Daniel (Josh Bowman) was like neither of his parents. Instead, the father-to-be put his selfishness aside and took a bullet to save his former love.

Daniel's redemption may have come to late in the game, but the Revenge writers felt Conrad's (Henry Czerny) son needed to go out as a fan favorite.

"Daniel had started off as such an innocent, and then got darker and darker and darker. We took him down such a wonderfully dark path and Josh was so extraordinary with it," said executive producer Sunil Nayar, according to Entertainment Weekly. "We came up with the thought of seeing if we could redeem him and he could die in a way that was actually a move of nobility so that the audience would be surprised, and also to warm him up with Emily in a way so the audience would be back on board with the nature of them and then we do something shocking."
