Penelope Cruz is almost unrecognizable as Mario from the Nintendo games in a black curled mustache, baggy blue overalls and a boyish cut tucked underneath an oversized red cap, all done for a video game advertisement.

The Spanish actress stars in a new Nintendo television ad as the iconic character Mario, one half of the Mario Brothers. Her sister, model Monica Cruz, also makes an appearance.

In the ad, the Cruz sisters make a bet during a two-player session of New Super Mario Bros. 2 and because Penelope loses, she dresses up as the Nintendo hero that is known for his red and blue attire. Penelope then shows up at a grocery stand wearing the outfit while Monica stands and laughs in the background.

This is the first video game commerical for Penelope. She has done a PETA anti-fur ad, is the face of Lacome's perfume "Tresor" and has been in numerous Ralph Lauren campaigns.

Away from the television screen, Penelope has starred in eight films since 2009 and currently played a seductive prostitute in the Woody Allen directed movie "To Rome With Love."

When asked about filming sex scenes, the 38-year-old told W magazine that they are "strange. Absurd, really." Penelope is featured on the magazine's September issue and is called the "ultimate movie star" for being an award-winning actress in three different languages, among her other scores.

She dated Matthew McConaughey and Tom Cruise before meeting her husband and settling down. In 2008, she starred with Javier Barden, 43, in "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" and aside from nabbing an Oscar for her role, Barden became her off-camera boyfriend. The two finally married in July of 2010 and now have a son, Leo.
