'Teen Mom' Star Tyler Baltierra Fights Back Against Adoption Critics

After she and fiancé Tyler Baltierra welcomed daughter Novalee Reign earlier this month, they faced unruly fans, who claimed they shouldn't have had a second child after choosing adoption for their first. In response to the backlash, the Teen Mom re-tweeted a message to fans.

"Children shouldn't have to sacrifice so that you can have the life you want. You make sacrifices so your children have the life they deserve," read the message posted to Lowell's Twitter account on Thursday.

Lowell and Baltierra chose adoption for their daughter Carly in 2009 as they filmed an episode of MTV's 16 & Pregnant. Five years later, in an interview with In Touch Weekly, the couple announced they were ready for a child of their own.

"I would’ve felt guilty if I got pregnant again when Carly was 1 or 2. But we’ve both been yearning for this,” Lowell told the magazine in April, revealing she had gone off birth control three months prior. “We’re ready to have a baby!”

While Lowell and Baltierra were not prepared for a child in 2009, they have both since gotten full-time jobs and purchased their own home.

“We have no doubt that raising a child will be hard. But I know we’re going to be really great parents,” Lowell explained.

Lowell and Baltierra return for Teen Mom season 5 later this year on MTV.
