As Mad Men draws to an end, creator Matthew Weiner took some time to thank the fans for their commitment this past week.

'Mad Men' Plans One Last 'Surprise' For Series Finale

"What an incredible journey this has been," declared Weiner to The Hollywood Reporter on Jan. 10 as AMC gears up to release the drama's final episodes. "We sincerely thank the fans for joining us on this ride and hope it has mean as much to them as it has to us."

Weiner seemed eternally gratefull for the freedom to write Mad Men the way that he did and while he'd like fans to respond well to the show's final episodes, he knows that the finale won't be able to please everyone. No matter what happens, there will always be some people who'd wanted things to go down differently.

"The road has been paved for a mixed review, no matter what," he told Rolling Stone back on Aug. 18 as the series finished up with production. "I do what I've always done on the show and rely on the people around me."

Weiner echoed this sentiment during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Nov. 24. "I don't care [about backlash]," he insisted. "I'm just doing my job. I'm just trying to do something meaningful with the people I work with."

Mad Men will return on AMC for the remainder of its seventh and final season Sunday, April 5 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
