The original Penguin approves of the new Penguin; Danny DeVito has voiced his approval of Robin Lord Taylor's portrayal of the character on Fox's Gotham.

'Gotham's Bruce Wayne Slated To 'Confront' Gordon For Not Making Progress On Murder Case?

DeVito famously played The Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot in Tim Burton's 1992 film Batman Returns and while this iconic performance would be hard to top, the actor is very impressed with Taylor.

"I've watched the show [Gotham]. I think he's a very good young Penguin. He's a terrific actor," DeVito admitted at the Television Critics Association press tour on Sunday, via Zap2It.

Robin's Father John Grayson Set To Be Introduced On 'Gotham'

Gotham is essentially a prequel series to Bruce Wayne becoming Batman and fighting all sort of colorful villains, Penguin included. Taylor's performance as Penguin is widely considered to be the best on Gotham, giving him the right amount of bitterness and delicious humor.

With Gotham being renewed for season 2 this week, is it possible that DeVito could guest star on the show in the future? The actor is not necessarily ruling it out.

"I don't know about that. It's all about the schedule and the parts," DeVito said.

Taylor previously said at the summer press tour back in 2014 that he was obsessed with Batman Returns as a kid, particularly for DeVito as The Penguin.

"As a kid, I didn't read many of the comic books," he said at the time, "but now [I'm] going back and researching Penguin to see what his deal is."

It would certainly be fun to see DeVito as a new character and sharing scenes with Taylor at some point.

Gotham airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
