Hurricane Isaac was downgraded to a tropical depression on Friday bringing heavy ranfall and threats of flash flooding to the middle Mississippi River Valley, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Today at 5 p.m. EST Isaac was located about 40 miles East of Joplin, Missouri and about 145 miles South East of Kansas City, Missouri, the NHC informed. It was expected to trigger tornadoes in Northeastern Arkansas, Eastern Missouri, Southwestern Illinois and exteme Western Kentucky and Tennessee.

Isaac was the first hurricane to hit the United States this year and caused at least four deaths in the country and at least 23 in Haiti and Dominican Republic before it made landfall in the U.S.

It hit around the same time of hurricane Katrina's anniversary in 2005.

According to Reuters, Isaac caused anywhere from $700 million to $2 billion in insured onshore losses.
