Kasey Kahl Arrested: Former 'Bachelorette' Contestant Pleads Not Guilty to Felony Bar Brawl
Kasey Kahl's bad times on "The Bachelorette 2" and "The Bachelor Pad" seem like a cakewalk compared to the legal problems he's facing now.
Kahl pleaded not guilty the morning of Aug. 31, to a felony assault in a Fresno County, Calif., courtroom.
On Jan. 15, Kahl got into a fight outside of a Fresno nightclub after he allegedly yelled insults towards couple Renee Idsinga and Richard Chaney. Kahl struck Chaney several times in the face and head, according to police. Though he was busted that month for a drunken and disorderly conduct charge, in early August he was charged with two counts of felony assault, one for felony battery.
In addition to the three felony charges and one misdemeanor charge against him, prosecutors claim Kahl was under the influence of alcohol, a drug, a controlled substance and toluene (paint thinners). His attorney told E! News that allegations of Kahl being high on paint thinners are "absolutely untrue."
But Kahl's attorney Gerald Saul Schwab explained that the reality star was simply defending himself the night of the brawl and he has several witness statements that prove it. Many of these statements were presented to the district attorney's office on the morning of Aug. 31.
"He is not doing well," Schwab said of his client to E! News, who used to date the infamous "Bachelor" star fixture Vienna Giradi. "He is upset that he is being charged simply by defending himself."
In a previous interview with E! News, Schwab said Idsinga and Chaney "wanted their 15 minutes, which they received, and now those 15 minutes are over."
If Kahl is convicted on all four counts, Kahl could be sentenced to eight years in state prison. His next hearing is set for Oct. 2.
