The MTV Video Music Awards are no stranger to big moments.

Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift to say that Beyonce had one of the best music videos of all time. Beyonce revealed her pregnancy with Jay Z on stage. Madonna rolled around and exposed her underwear in a wedding dress, then years later she kissed Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

The VMAs always manage to get fans talking, and MTV is hoping for the same effect this year when the show will air live from Los Angeles' Staples Center on Thursday.

Drake and Rihanna lead the pack with five nominations each, while Katy Perry's four nominations take second place.
