'Justified' Star Joelle Carter Live Tweeted The Final Season Premiere Revealing Plenty Of Details

The actor revealed in an interview with Yahoo! TV that published hours before the final season premiere how he found out about his character getting killed off and more.

Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) shot Dewey in the back of the head during the premiere episode for this sixth and final season of the FX crime drama.

"It's not very pleasant, is it? It is appropriate, probably. But I was definitely sad when I heard," Herriman said of Dewey's death.

"I heard that news when I showed up to record a DVD commentary that I was doing for Season 5 with the producers," he revealed.

"They said, 'Hey, we've got something to tell you...' Once I read the script, though, I was actually really happy, because it was such a brilliantly written script. It seems in a way, as sad as his death was, that it would have been a shame for Dewey to just peter out in some way. It seems appropriate that he went out with a bang. It would've been strange for him to just drift off into the forest somewhere. It had to be something like this, something extreme, I think, because Dewey's life has been filled with extremes," Herriman said.

Herriman finds it strange how loved his character turned out to be.

"It's so weird," he stated, adding, "There's something kind of hapless and pathetic about Dewey, and I think that's probably why he's not looked upon as just a typical bad guy that audiences hate. I think it's easier, as an audience, to hate a villain who is conniving and genuinely malicious, whereas Dewey's harebrained schemes consistently fail. It's a human thing to have empathy for someone in that situation, and particularly when you got to know them. You get to know Dewey throughout the series."

The final season of Justified is airing now on FX at 10 p.m. ET on Tuesdays.
