The 9th day of the U.S. Open came to a screeching halt due to rain on Tuesday as Maria Sharapova, Andy Roddick and Novak Djokovic all were unsuccessful in even getting through their first respective sets.  However, they will look to finish their respective matchups on Wednesday, amongst other notable duels.

Torrential down pours allowed Andy Roddick to extend his career at least another day.  Vowing to retire at the tournament's end, he is currently in a first set tiebreak with Juan Martin del Potro.  The 2003 U.S. Open winner started out with great momentum against del Potro, a seventh seed, but he missed a shot at taking the first set when he missed an opportunity on a crucial serve.  Only time will tell if the twentieth seeded Roddick can oust the Argentinean and live to play another day.

While many fans hopeful to see Roger Federer steam roll into the semi-finals against Andy Murray, putting away Tomas Berdych will be no easy task.  The six seed Czeck has played good against the one seeded Federer over the last few years, as he has taken three of six matches from the Swiss star.  Most are calling this duel the most must-see matchup of the day.

Twenty seed Roberta Vinci will look to upset the number ten Sara Errani for a shot at the semifinals.  Interesting enough, the two competitors are ranked second in women's doubles competition but must now take on each other for a shot to move on in singles play.  Although Errani does indeed have the advantage, it is a matchup of friendly bragging rights and individual prestige that should not be missed.

The number three ranked Maria Sharapova will look to regain her winning form after the beginning of her match with Marion Bartoni was also postponed.  However, the precipitation could not have arrived at a better time for the Russian star, as she was in the process of losing her set 4-0.  Sharapova will look to take advantage at a new day of competition and turn it around.
