The Originals will be delving into uncharted territory as it explores Marcel's past without Klaus.

Why Freya Might Be The First Mortal Mikaelson On 'The Originals'

While the series has extensively explored how Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) met and formed a powerful bond, the program hasn't really taken much time to look at Marcel's life apart from New Orleans. All of that is about to change, however, as the show goes deep into the trenches on Monday night.

Executive producer Michael Narducci offered up a photo on Twitter Jan. 23 which showed Marcel during the war and warned fans that this week's episode will be a brutal one.

Of course Klaus won't be entirely absent. Morgan did reveal on Sunday that this episode has been one of his favorites to ever shoot.

Of course the actor didn't reveal much to go on in terms of spoilers, though the latest clip released by the network (featured below) does show him approaching long-time enemy Davina (Danielle Campbell). While the young witch has been trying to kill him all season, Klaus might need her help with his brother Elijah (Daniel Gillies), who is still suffering the effects of Esther's (Sonja Sohn) torture.

The pair has little in common, except for one person for whom they both care for deeply: Marcel.

The Originals continues on The CW with its second season Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
