Penny Dreadful fans will just have to wait a little longer this year for the show's second season.

Ethan Chandler Will Be Keeping 'Penny Dreadful' Fans 'On Edge' This Season

On Friday Variety announced that Showtime has changed the premiere date for its Victorian supernatural drama.

The program's second season was originally supposed to begin on April 26. The network has chosen to push the premiere back a week, making the new premiere date May 3.

Why Vanessa Ives Might Be In Hiding On 'Penny Dreadful'

So is production running long than intended? Is there some competition on April 26 that the network doesn't want to face? It is uncertain at this time why Showtime has opted to change the date, though it does mean that the ten-episode season will run a week later than had originally been planned.

Creator John Logan has promised a larger scope for the show's second season as human villains surface in London.

Most of the new promotional material focuses on the upcoming demons, both literal and figurative, which will be faced by the show's cast. Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) and Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) seem to be a major focus for the upcoming episodes, though the series intends to rely heavily on its strong ensemble.

"Last season, our heroes were hunters," Logan teased. "This season, they're hunted."

Based on the network's previews (featured below), the show's upcoming installment will feature plenty of pain, regret, longing, and violence on a shocking scale.

Penny Dreadful will return on Showtime for a second season on Sunday, May 3.
