Not everyone thinks Don Draper will meet a grisly end during Mad Men's final hours this year.

Death has certainly been a common denominator amongst the leading men of many high-caliber dramas over the last few years, but that doesn't mean Mad Men's Don Draper (Jon Hamm) is ready to follow suit. In fact, there are those who think life would be an even darker fate for the reflective, haunted Don.

On Feb. 13 writer Matt Patches made an argument in Esquire for Don's survival and why it would be most appropriate for the ad agency drama.

According to Patches, death for Don would not be in keeping with creator Matthew Weiner's sense of style and flow. Death have always been carefully constructed on the show, and Weiner wouldn't just jump to killing off Don for shock value.

Don's greatest concern throughout the series is that he has nothing and no one, and as long as he remains alive that fear will always linger in the back of his mind. As Patches argues, life is difficult and Don seems like to sort of character who would continue to fight down that road.

Weiner knows that not everyone is going to be happy with the way the series will end, but that's all right with him. "I feel very satisfied with a lot of what we did," he told the Daily Mail on Jan. 12. "And I am super proud of the fact that we did not repeat ourselves, which is the tallest order of all of them."

Mad Men will return on AMC for the remainder of its seventh and final season Sunday, April 5 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
