The very first photo of Mohammed Emwazi - better known as 'Jihadi John' has surfaced.

British news service Sky News tweeted a photo of Emwazi from his student records. The photo comes after the Islamic State cutthroat was identified as the man behind the mask who was seen in numerous videos of hostages being executed.

In the pic, he is wearing a Pittsburgh Pirates hat in what appears to be a student identification photo. According to The Washington Post on Thursday, Emwazi is a British citizen who was born in Kuwait but grew up in a upper-middle class family in West London. After he graduated from the University of Westminster with a degree in computer programming, he moved to Syria in 2012 where he joined ISIS.

"I have no doubt that Mohammed is Jihadi John," said one of Emwazi's unidentified friends in an interview with the site. "He was like a brother to me. . . . I am sure it is him."

The source also says that Emwazi was "desperate" to leave Great Britain before he tried to land a job teaching English in Saudi Arabia. Since then, he apparently lost all contact with his family and friends.

Emwazi was given his pseudonym as John by a group of his hostages. The hostages have said that he was part of a terrorist cell described as "The Beatles" and that he guarded Western hostages while handling communications with their families.
