Trista Sutter recently opened up about her fertility struggles.

Trista Sutter Says 'The Bachelorette' Used To Be More "Innocent" Than It Is Now

Following the release of her new book, Happily Ever After: The Life Changing Power of a Grateful Heart, Sutter spoke out about the struggles her and her husband, Ryan, faced while trying to start a family.

"I talk about in the book how we struggled with infertility for almost two years. I always wanted to be a mom, it was always my dream and although I wanted to be a career person for a very long time, overplaying that at all times was to become a mother," Sutter told Fox411 on Wednesday. "When you get married you believe, ‘Okay, the next natural thing is to have babies.’ When that doesn’t happen you start to question your relationship, you start to question yourself, even God."

Sutter became ABC's first Bachelorette in 2003. While on the show, Sutter met and fell in love with her now-husband, Ryan, and the couple got married in a made-for-TV wedding later that same year.

"It’s a very difficult thing to not be able to do anything about making a dream of yours come true and questioning whether something is wrong with you," Sutter continued of her struggles. "So that was definitely a dark time in my life."

Luckily, Sutter and her husband eventually saw success in their efforts for children, welcoming son Maxwell Alston in July 2007, and daughter Blakesley Grace in April 2009.
