Fox's innovative new comedy The Last Man on Earth is getting good reviews overall, with many critics praising its original concept and star Will Forte.

The Last Man on Earth is a half-hour comedy created by and starring Forte of Saturday Night Live fame. The show centers on Phil Miller (Forte), an average man who soon discovers that he may be the last person living on Earth in the year 2020.

The show features Phil searching the United States in the hope of finding another human being. Whether he is successful in this endeavor has not yet been revealed.

At this time it would appear that The Last Man on Earth is indeed a one-man show, with Phil scavenging the Earth, collecting various items to put in his gigantic house. With no one to police him, he is essentially able to do whatever he wants.

However, the loneliness that comes with being the last man on Earth would undoubtedly come up, making for a fascinating internal conflict.

The pilot episode is written by Forte, while Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie) directed it.

Right out of the gate, The Last Man on Earth has received favorable reviews from TV critics, with the show currently having a 74 out of 100 on Metacritic. Compared to many other TV comedies, which are often rather poorly reviewed, this is a good sign.

In fact, Forte may even find himself with an Emmy nomination if the review from USA Today is any indication.

The review notes that Forte, Lord and Miller "have adeptly walked a middle line, taking a comic approach to a scary subject, but keeping the humor grounded in reality. None of which would be possible without a tour de force performance by Forte, who immediately pushes himself into the Emmy conversation."

Either way, the show should offer a unique style that it not able to be found in an array of formulaic sitcoms elsewhere on television.

The Last Man on Earth premieres Sunday, March 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
