Eric Stonestreet has a new Emmy Award to put on his shelf, but one thing he doesn't have is a relationship with Charlize Theron.

Rumors have swirled that the "Modern Family" star and Academy Award-winning actress are romantically involved, but Stonestreet took to his Twitter account to humorously debunk that notion.

"I wish people would stop spreading rumors that Charlize Theron and I are dating. It's starting to make Halle Berry jealous," Stonestreet wrote.

A representative for Stonestreet issued a less comic denial of the relationship to People.

"There is nothing romantic going on between them. He has only met Charlize twice," the spokesperson told the magazine.

Some speculation claimed Stonestreet might take Theron on the red carpet as his date for Sunday night's Emmy Awards ceremony. However, Stonestreet brought along a different guest - his best friend Paul, who convinced Stonestreet to audition for his first ever acting job.

"He dared me to audition for the first play I ever did at [Kansas State University]," Stonestreet said.

Sunday evening was a successful one for Stonestreet. He won his second Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of Cameron Tucker, a gay father in ABC's hit sitcom "Modern Family."

Theron hasn't spoken out about the rumors of a romance with Stonestreet, but she did talk with Ellen DeGeneres at the end of last year about being single for the first time in years.

"I haven't been single since [I was] like 19," Theron said. "I've been in two relationships. One was ten years, and one was three years. Just like back to back."

Theron split from Irish actor and director Stuart Townsend in 2010 after nearly a decade together. After that, she briefly dated actor Ryan Reynolds before he began his relationship with his new wife, Blake Lively.

Theron told DeGeneres she was enjoying the single life after so many years in committed relationships.

"When I talk about it, it's not to get pity. It's actually a nice experience for me because I haven't experienced it . . . I'm really enjoying it," she said.
